Fishing for both native and stocked trout is available in a variety of local streams and rivers including Jack's River, Conasauga River, Toccoa River and the Mulky Recreation Area.
Other spots include Lake Blue Ridge and the Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery. The Hatchery is located 20 miles south of Morganton off Georgia Highway 60.
U.S. Forest Service Boat ramps are located at Lakewood off old U.S. 76; Morganton Point, off Highway 60, and the Blue Ridge Recreation Area off Dry Branch Road.
U.S. Forest Service offers fishing at Deep Hole, Mulkey Creek, Coopers Creek, andRock Creek. Handicap access is available at Deep Hole.

Shallowford Bridge - 7.9 miles south on Aska Road
Shallowford Bridge is an old one-lane bridge over the Toccoa River. You can fish under the bridge or along the dirt road to the right following the river on the Benton MacKaye Trail.

Just before you reach Shallowford Bridge you see a "wide spot in the road" this a poular local fishing hole.

Tammen Park Just Off Appalachian Hwy (515/76)
Tammen Park is a very popular place to fly fish for trout in the Toccoa River below the Lake Blue Ridge Dam. Call in advance for water-release information 800-238-2264.
Horseshoe Bend Park - River Road off of Highway 60 in McCaysville
Horseshoe Bend Park is a beautiful park with good trout fishing on the Toccoa River. From Blue Ridge take Highway 515/76 east. Turn left onto Hwy 60 stay straight until you see River Road on your left. Turn left then drive a short distance to the Park. Horseshoe Bend Park offers a playground, picnic pavilions, and restrooms.

Brasstown Bald (Georgia’s Highest Mountain) 706-896-2556
Brasstown Bald is Georgia’s highest mountain at 4,784 feet above sea level. From the top of the mountain you have a 360 degree view of 4 states and on clear Fall days you can see Atlanta to the south.
There is a shuttle bus or you can choose between 4 hiking trails ranging in length from ½ to 6 miles to get to the observation area at the top of the mountain where you will find a mountaintop theater with a video presentation that shows the beauty of the changing seasons on Brasstown Bald.
Take Highway 515 east to Hiawassee. On the east side of Hiawassee turn right onto Highway 17/75. Follow the signs to Brasstown Bald.

Trails for ATVs
If you enjoy riding ATV's, this link will take you to a site for more information regarding ATV trails in the North Georgia area. Fannin County does not have a specific "ATV" trail, but there are many backroads areas that might be of interest. If not, several of these are just a short drive away. DO NOT RIDE ATV'S AROUND YOUR CABIN - THESE ARE PRIVATELY MAINTAINED ROADS.

HELEN, GA
The small town of Helen, Georgia is a replica of a German village.
From Blue Ridge take 515/76 east to Hiawassee. On the east side of Hiawassee, turn right onto Highway 17/75 and follow the signs to Helen. This is a beautiful drive and you will pass a trailhead for the Appalachian Trail along the way.

DAHLONEGA, GA
Located about a one hour drive from Blue Ridge you will find the quaint town of Dahlonega which was once home to the Cherokee Indians and the site of America's first major Gold Rush ignited by the 1828 discovery of the purest gold in the world. Today's visitors find the images of yesteryear as they stroll the historic public square, or travel the roads, trails, and rivers of the beautiful mountains and valleys of the surrounding area.
Take Highway 515 west toward the town of Ellijay. Just before Ellijay you will take Highway 52 and follow the signs to Dahlonega. This route takes you through apple country…there will be several apple orchards on both sides of the roads were you can purchase apples during the season.
Or if you want scenic drive (and you like winding roads...)
Take Highway 515 east (toward the town of Blairsville) for 3.5 miles, turn left onto Highway 60 and just follow the signs!

Dukes Creek Falls
Drops about 150 feet down a sheer granite canyon and into Dukes Creek. The area offers scenic beauty and excellent gold panning opportunities. There is a slippery-rock water slide. An observation deck affords an excellent view of the falls from the parking are. Travel GA 515/76 North/East. Then take US Highway 19/129 south from Blairsville five miles. Turn left onto Georgia Highway 180 for 1/2 mile. Turn right onto Georgia Highway 348 (Richard Russell Scenic Highway) for 12 miles.
Vogel State Park
Listed above, but worth listing twice! One of Georgia's oldest and most popular state parks. Major facilities include 280 acres in the mountains, 20 acre lake, miniature golf, swimming beach, four picnic shelters, pioneer camping, pedal boats, family group shelter. There are 17 miles of hiking trails for the outdoor enthusiasts. Park Map
